Town Hall, Poznan – Landmark of the Old of the market

Town Hall – the main building of the Old Market, located in the Old Town of Pognani. The first town hall was built on this place at the beginning of the 14th century in the Gothic style. It was square a two-story building, of which the foundation and basements.

In the late 15th and early 16th centuries, a tower was attached to the town hall. In 1536 year the strongest fire almost destroyed the town hall.

In the middle of the 16th century, the town hall was rebuilt in the Renaissance style along project of an Italian architect. Then the tower received The new clockwork destroyed in 1675 by a lightning strike.

At the end of the 18th century, the building underwent a large restoration and found modern features.

The Town Hall suffered greatly during World War II and was destroyed almost to the gothic basis.

Currently it houses the National Museum.

The facade of the building, richly decorated with arcades, is very interesting. drawings and wise sayings.

Also, from here every hour from 7.00 to 21.00 sound is heard Of Poznan Heinal – a melody played from the tower of the town hall trumpeter. This is an old urban tradition, known since the 15th century. Similar also exists in Krakow.
