Castle Orlik nad Vltavou (Czech Republic)
Orlik nad Vltavou is a real gem among the castles of the Czech Republic. In addition to interesting architecture, romantic interiors and rich collections, it enchants with its location on a rocky ledge over the lake Orlice.
The exact date of foundation of the castle is unknown. But there are prerequisites suggest the presence of a fortress on a cliff above the Vltava guarding trade routes from the 13th century onwards. In the 13-14 century, Orlik was rebuilt in Gothic style and belonged to the Czech crown. In the hands of kings he remained until the middle of the 14th century, when Charles IV bestowed the castle on his the chancellor. From the beginning of the 18th century to the present, the castle belongs Schwarzenberg family. Modern neo-gothic Orlik nad Vltavou acquired after reconstruction in the 19th century.
The castle is located in southern Bohemia between the cities of Pilsen and České Budějovice.
