Geography and climate
Banska Bystrica is located in the central part of Slovakia in Zvolenskoy hollow. The city is located in a picturesque area near the foot of the Lower Tatras 212 km from Bratislava. It has temperate continental climate with warm summers and cool in the winter.

Story
Banska Bystrica is one of the oldest Slovak cities, which was founded in 1255. Originally located here a small village that began to grow rapidly thanks to German to the colonists. In the Middle Ages, Banska Bystrica flourished thanks to copper mining and trade. The city was surrounded by mines, which belonged to the company Ungarischer Handel (one of the leading copper producers in the 16th century).
The most early history of Banska Bistritsa is associated with the exploitation copper mines. The city was built on the site of the ancient Slavic settlements that are supposed to exist here as early as 9 century.
