On May 7, the Greek Society for the Conservation of Nature (HSPN) unveiled list of beaches awarded in 2014 international environmental certificate “Blue Flag”.

В этом году Греция оказалась на втором месте в спискеawarded countries. The winner in this prestigious competition became Spain. Total for the title of the country with the best beaches fought 51 a country.
408 beaches and 10 marinas of Greece were recognized as the best by the following indicators: the quality and purity of sea water, the purity of the coastal lines, beach area management, security holidaymakers, environmental protection. It must be said that this year the number of marked beaches has increased – in 2013, the Blue Flag got 393 beaches.
The Blue Flag is a voluntary environmental sign, awarded for the cleanest with well-developed infrastructure recreation beaches. In Greece, the environmental program coordinator is the Greek Conservation Society.
Tourists need the “Blue Flag”
According to the press service of the Greek Society for the Conservation of Nature, in this year, travel companies have especially started to monitor the situation with the beaches. After all, the beach is marked by this “flag” has a great attraction for tourists due to higher level of services offered.
In Attica and Thessaloniki, 13 and 11 beaches were awarded respectively.
