Milos is recognized as the Sacred Island

Министр труда Яннис Вруцис в присутствии архиепископаOf Athens and All Hellas Jeromenos officially proclaimed Milos Sacred island.

During the celebrations, the Minister made statement: “This is a very important event not only for the island, but and for all of Greece! Milos is an invaluable early Christian a monument that makes the island a major international center pilgrimage and enhances the overall image of the country against the backdrop of spiritual togetherness. ”

The island of Milos belongs to the islands of the Cyclades archipelago and, as most of them are of volcanic origin. Exactly thanks to the volcanoes, so-called catacombs that were used as mass grave sites in including Christian martyrs.

Today, one of the three catacombs is open to visitors.
