В конце сентября 2017 года в горах Крита были установлены двеmeteorological stations, one of the tasks of which is to study thickness of snow cover.
The first was installed at an altitude of 1400 m above sea level Nida Plateau (landmark – Mount Psiloritis). Second station mounted in the White Mountains near the monastery Kallergs, located at an altitude of 1650 m. Currently thanks to these stations you can accurately determine the thickness of the snow cover in the mountains of Crete.
According to information provided by the Greek Meteorological service, on Saturday, January 19, 2019 in the White Mountains was snow cover is almost 1 meter thick at that time as in the area of Nida – about 70 centimeters. Meteorologists emphasize that these values at this time of year are characteristic of mountain areas where measurements are taken.

In the diagram you can see in which areas of Crete there is a snowy cover. This map was developed based on satellite imagery which, however, do not take into account the thickness of the snow.
It is worth noting that the Cretan weather stations are the most southern in Europe, by which the thickness of the snow cover.
