Kefalari is a “water” village not far from Kavala

If you go this year to Kavala or to the island of Thassos, Do not miss the opportunity to visit the village of Kefalari – one of the most beautiful in the prefecture of Drama, rich in green groves and spring by sources.

Деревня Кефалари расположена в непосредственнойproximity to the road Kavala Drama, 18 km from Drama and only 20 km From Kavala. Administratively owned by the municipality Doksato, and the population is only 851 people.

A river flows through Kefalaru. In the village you can visit a farm where trout are bred, relax in a few unusual taverns and cafes near spring water sources in a pleasant shade stately plane trees.

The city is famous for its springs, fountains and small waterfalls. Water that springs from dozens of mountain springs, Crystal clear and of high quality. By the way, these the sources provide water for the whole city of Kavala, as well as the region Kalambaki.

An interesting fact is that so far no one can confidently say where does the water come from that directly from the rock but the inhabitants of Kefalaria decided to use these sources properly creating a beautiful park around them.

On the hills beyond the village there are four chapels surrounded by lush greenery (Agios Konstantinos and Eleni, Agios Nikolaos, Panagia and Prophet Elijah), which are popular with pilgrims.

Kefalari is inhabited mainly by the Pontic Greeks (ethnic a group of Greeks from the Black Sea coast and a historic Pont area), and refugees who have moved here altogether recently.

The old name of the village Kefalari is “Bunarbasi”.
