What to bring to Thailand and what things to take no need – our experience

Matured after returning for a small post about what to take with yourself to Thailand and what you do not need to take. When were we going to Thailand did not take into account some points, although everything seemed to be very even obvious, because the country is warm, cheap. And despite the fact that all things fit in a suitcase, I am sure that it would be possible without problems to reduce and this number. So not so much advice for the sake of, and how much for myself, I write a reminder note for the next trips. And then again, we type too much.

What kind of things you should not take with you

First I would like to tell you that you do not need to take, because that I have met various tips on the net, and I would like to some of them rebut. I will list the points, it’s easier.

  • Winter jacket, winter shoes, and generally warm clothes. It is better ask someone to take me to the airport than to drag everyone it’s with you. We were taken, and we knew that it was warm in Thailand, however anyway for some reason they took a lot of warm things. One is enough warm clothing set (sweaters, for example). As an option, all winter can be left in the airport storage room.
  • Waterproof jacket or windbreaker. I took a windbreaker with me, but wore just a couple of times when he went on a bike. Easier to buy on site cellophane rain cover, which is sold in every 7-eleven.
  • Dishes. We took for some reason with us mugs, spoons, bowls (the habit of the walker). If you go to a hotel, you don’t need anything. take, you will eat in the cafes, and if you rent an apartment, then there there will be a kitchen. In the extreme case, on the spot for a penny everything is possible buy.
  • Towels and linens. We did not take and thank God. All this is in every hotel and is often available when renting houses and apartments for the long term (for short by itself). Again all can be bought on the spot.
  • Shampoos, soaps, cosmetics. Total in bulk in place the same 7-eleven. In many hotels in the bath put bottles with shampoo, soap, etc., however, not sure what is always good quality. In any case, if you have any special means hygiene, it is worth taking.
  • Mosquito repellent. This is a very useful thing and not worth it. neglect but better to buy in thailand in 7-eleven or any supermarket. Local funds are somehow better at local mosquitoes.

Separately mention again about winter clothes. She can need only during transit in some Novosibirsk (my experience), or if you initially fly away from Moscow (where the plane gets through the heated sleeve), and from the other Russian city, where the aircraft being taken in cold buses. Below in the photo is my compact, but warm down jacket, which is like once suitable for traveling to warmer countries, taking up very little in suitcase.

What to take to Thailand

What to bring to Thailand

Main

  • international passport
  • Airline tickets (how cheaper to fly).
  • Travel insurance (all about insurance in Thailand). Be sure to read and choose your insurance, even cheap, so that the money does not get into anything. A better not really save, Tae medicine is expensive.
  • Money and bank cards. It is best to take a small amount in currency (dollars / euro), and the main part to carry on the card (list cards for travel), you can remove them without problems, and what currency you on the account does not matter.
  • Preferably international driving license with category A, if you are going to ride a bike. In principle, everyone drives without them. in the extreme case, pay a small fine of about 500-1000 baht. Rights are checked mainly in Pattaya and Phuket. But I more often I travel by car, all the more I have international rights with category B. If anything, I recommend taking the car is not local rentals, and in normal international, especially if by the day need to.

Clothes and shoes

  • Several light and light T-shirts / T-shirts. And if you are prone to to burn in the sun, it is best with a long sleeve.
  • A few shorts or skirts.
  • Can some light pants, dresses.
  • Swim and swimsuits.
  • Lightweight and ventilated shoes: sandals, sandals, slippers and so on
  • One set of warm clothes: sweatshirt, warm socks, pants. It will be useful if you ride buses or trains, there are terrible air conditioners. Or if you go to the north of Thailand from November to February, at this time there can be cool in the evenings and at night (until +5 degrees).

Useful

  • Medication. You shouldn’t take much, just the main thing case: nurofen (from temp and pain) and paracetamol (with dengue, you can only take it), smecta and rehydron (in case of poisoning and disorders), iodine and hydrogen peroxide, and so on. Just in case, An example of our first-aid kit. But in any city there is a pharmacy, everything is possible buy on the spot. However, if you have any specific disease or you used to use certain pills, then you need take them with you not to look there, and not everything can be on sale. And so almost any analogue can be found on the current substance (how to search. But I, frankly, against self-treatment. It is better to make a normal insurance, then the doctor will prescribe medications. after the examination and they will be given out right in the hospital (everything is covered insurance).
  • Sunscreen. I would buy on the spot in Tae, but if you care protective factor (in Tae for some reason it is difficult to find a maximum factor), or you are an adherent of some brands, then take it from home. The sun is really strong there; it is very easy to burn.
  • Masks and goggles for swimming. If you are going to snorkel a lot and while you are picky, it is better to take with you all yours. In Moscow good masks cost from 1000 rubles in Decathlon. Rolling on excursions so-so and often do not fit the size of the face or flow. But, of course, for the sake of one excursion, I would not drag it out of houses.
  • Sunglasses for bike. If you ride a bike a lot, then good would have glasses, well closing eyes, otherwise all sorts of rubbish in the eyes hits. Or buy a helmet onsite, since rented glass usually dull and scratched. I took myself points again in Decathlon with replaceable glasses, there are dark, there are transparent, convenient for any time of day.
  • Compact extension can come in handy active travelers changing the hotel behind the hotel. It happens that is not enough Outlets in hotels or they are located very uncomfortable. But in principle any adapter or extension cord can be purchased on the spot, if suddenly will need.

Since I started talking about my favorite Decathlon. There is such a life hack – when ordering online on the website of Decathlon, but through cashback service Letyshop, there will be a return of 2.5-5% for all goods. If anyone does not know, they have delivery now, so you can go home to order.

Optional

  • Multivarka. A very useful thing if you go with a child wintering You can buy on the spot. I don’t know how we used to be without her. Managed, it is much more convenient to cook. Plus when moving between cities helps, in a hotel you can quickly make a child porridge or vegetables. Now we take on all travels.
  • You can take a kettle if you like to drink tea every day. We somehow I bought a small teapot for 2 cups in Tae and drove some time with by myself. But still, when it comes to wintering, it is easier to buy on the spot and then leave. And if we talk about spending the night in hotels, then in all normal hotels have kettles, either in the room or in the lobby (in Guesthouses).
  • If you use 4G modems, you can take. Mobile Internet is well developed. But I personally prefer to surf the Internet. via smartphone, now everyone has this feature. Read more about Mobile Internet in Thailand.
  • Tourist clothes and shoes if you are hiking. Otherwise Thailand good things are expensive. But tourist equipment you can not take it, because on the spot you can buy “disposable” tents and sleeping bags for 500-1000 baht.
  • Non-working bank card. Sometimes they ask when renting a bike make a scan of a bank card instead of a deposit or even leave her in pledge. Of course you don’t have to take it, but if you have it, then you can.

Below in the photo is one of the options for the contents of my backpack, which I take to Thailand (depends on the type of trip). Since i have a lot of technology, it takes half. I even have a video on This topic: The contents of my backpack.

What clothes to take to Thailand

Separate paragraph. If you select the most important rule – then this only summer clothes and shoes! There really is besides shorts and t-shirts and Like them, nothing more is needed, as it is almost always hot. AND it is very desirable to have a light-colored top, otherwise I’m worn out their dark T-shirts, crazy enough to take them with you. therefore just having a sweater or sweatshirt for the evening or staying in air-conditioned rooms.

And minimalists who prefer only with hand luggage ride, generally can really take nothing – clothes for themselves and Wallet with money. In Tae cheap casual clothes, you can buy and throw it away before leaving.

P.S. This is all my personal experience, so your list of what to take to Thailand, can be strikingly different :) Naturally, when I go on wintering with my wife and child, and not on a trip, then we take Suitcases and things get much more than in the example with my backpacker. But again, who drives like.
