Arriving in Khao Lak, the first thing I decided to do was go to the Tsunami Museum, before watching, and a feature film, and videos from the spot events. Such a serious tragedy happened, therefore, how not to go to the museum. The museum is proudly named the International Tsunami Museum. Yeah, straight international, yes. In general, never a museum, rather a stand with information, no more. I don’t know what should have been there, but this is clearly not a museum. By the way, there are three of them there and everything seems international museums. But okay, first things first.

In general, about museums
I will not tell you about the tragic tsunami of 2004, you yourself can find information online. A lot of people died, including including in Thailand. As I wrote above, I counted 3 museums. pieces and none of them is interesting from the point of view of a tourist because that there is nothing in them except for the poor quality of the photos (part printed on a regular printer), descriptions on the stands in English language and TV with rollers from YouTube. More like making of money. All this can be viewed in a relaxed atmosphere at home, why go somewhere All museums are dedicated to the city of Khao Lak, although it suffered all the Andaman coast, and in general not only Thailand.
There is also a memorial at Nam Wham pier, but I was not there, so I don’t I can say how interesting it is there.
Museum of Tsunami 1
Free admission.
The first museum is located near the police boat, which the tsunami carried ashore and carried several kilometers. Now he It is exactly in the same place where it was brought in 2004. You yourself see for yourself how far to the sea shore, and where water reached, washing away the whole city on its way. By the way, out of 9 policemen who were on the boat, only one died. The museum is It is a small canopy under which souvenirs are sold. Also there are several stands with photos and descriptions. One of sellers serves as a guide and tells a little about tsunami.
Next to the canopy is a crippled car. Did not ask it has been standing here since 2004 and was hit by a tsunami or just like that worth it. A little distance from the boat and the shed is a stone memorial in memory of the dead.
The indicator of the turn to the boat is this stella.

Tsunami Museum 2
Entry for donation. I left 100 baht, but you can and don’t leave.
The second museum is private and the most interesting of all. Presents a single room with a bunch of different stands, with maps, photographs, and local stories about the incident. Stands decorated well, but you need good English to fluently to read. On the ground floor there is a large TV where you can watch tsunami videos downloaded from the internet. When you enter me gave a glass of cool water, for free. Was here in the evening so quarrel for the quality of the photo.

Tsunami Museum 3
Entry type for donation, but it is mandatory. 100 baht
The least interesting museum, although from the outside it seems otherwise, is solid signboard issued. Login, as I wrote above, is paid, but There is nothing to watch at all, so you can donate to charity (if it really is) don’t walk inside. On the first floor there are some so-so stands, and on the second floor 3 separate rooms with TVs, where the rollers and tsunami movies. Moreover, for some reason you can not take pictures, although there is nothing to photograph.

On the map
- The boat and canopy near it are 200 meters from the main tracks and from the road is not visible. It is easy to find it, and it is marked on my map (police boat).
- The second museum is located on the way to this boat, on the right in one from buildings about 50 meters from the road.
- The third museum is located near the first two, right on the main road, a good landmark 7-eleven, exactly opposite it across the road.
