Sukhothai Historical Park – how to get that see our guesthouse

As usual, a post to help independent travelers wishing to visit the historical park of Sukhothai Sukhothai). Maps, points marked on google maps, those places where we were, our guesthouse and so on. Our impressions of visiting this place you can read in the article Sukhothai – The cradle of Thai civilization and Buddhism. In short, I can to say it’s worth going there, especially if you like ancient temples with their energy.

Sukhothai is located in the north of the country, approximately between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. And the historical park Sukhothai is located in the west of the city, about 15 km, and is called the local Old City (Old city). So if you take a tuk-tuk or santeo, then that’s the way it should be pronounced. The city itself is not worth watching, there nothing is interesting, well, only if the fruit on the market go. But the historical park is another thing!

General map of Sukhothai

For a start, a drycottle map on google for a presentation about what will be discussed. It has a bus station, our guesthouse, and temples, which we think is worth seeing.

Where to stay

There are two options for where to stay: next to the city itself and bus station, or next to the historic park. Second the option is more convenient, because you do not need to spend time on delivery myself to the historic park, but I don’t know that there is a little worse with housing and prices, but there are a lot of nice cafes, and some kind of atmosphere more enjoyable.

We chose to live near the bus station at 4T Guesthouse, and drove a bike to the park, as well as a songteo (20 baht per person to old city). Also there was a Guesthouse Garden House nearby, closer to the main road and next to 7/11 where the cost is about same

Price and description of 4T Guesthouse

In this area I can advise our guesthouse in Sukhothai, in who brought us tuk tuk from the bus station for 50 baht, and located in 10 minutes walk from it, if you go straight (marked on the map blue line). It’s called 4T Guesthouse, you can book here, and it is better to do it in advance, it is popular, often everything is taken. Cost – room with fan 300 baht, with air conditioning 400 baht

We found our guesthouse through the reservation system, read reviews, selected in advance, very convenient. You can also watch accommodation in Sukhothai on RoomGuru service.

Interior

There is a small pool, a cafe, free wifi, and bike rental. 250 baht per day, or 300 baht per day. Wifi only works in cafe, or in the houses are right next door, so if you need Internet in your room, then ask next to the cafe.

How to get to Sukhothai and back

As it turned out, it is very easy to get to Sukhothai. There are two options:

  • Search for a direct bus to Sukhothai

Similarly, buses go from Chiang Mai (Arcade bus station), Bangkok (Mo Chit), Khon Kaen. Accordingly, it is possible to leave Sukhothai and these cities are back directly.

Since Sukhothai is small, buses do not go as often. we drove from Chiang Mai, on the morning bus (ours was at 8.45, total there were several buses in the morning), travel time 5 hours, cost 218 baht (218 rubles).

  • Drive through Phitsanulok

Phitsanulok is a larger city and is an hour’s drive from Sukhothai, small buses between these cities ply each hour. Cost 40bat (40r).

In Phitsanulok there is a railway station, so from Bangkok or Chiang Mai You can get there by train. Buses here are, it seemed to us almost in all directions, and go often enough.

If anyone needs it, then the bus schedule Phitsanulok – Udodani (we were given such a schedule – 8.30, 10.30, 12.00, 18.00, 20.30, 23.00, 23.50, 24.00, 01.00, 02.00), the travel time is 6-7 hours, cost 280bat (280r)

In terms of sightseeing, you can safely one day, run around quickly, take a picture of everything, and go back home However, if you want something more, then It is worth staying here for at least a couple of days some temples for several hours, just resting from the worldly fuss. Still, this historic park is a place of power, hundreds For years, people have lodged these stones.

The cost of visiting the park

Historical Park Sukhothai is divided into three parts: central, north and west. I circled them on the map red line. Central part time from 8 am to 18 evenings, northern until 17.30, western until 16.30. There is also a south part, but it is free, and there are literally several temples.

The entrance to each of them costs 100 baht. There is no single ticket. Behind entry with a bike is 10 baht, with a motorbike 20 baht. You can go and free if confused. And in the western part of the booth only on one road, and if you go from the other side, you will not You will learn that you have to pay for it (it happened by chance).

Bicycle rent

Near the entrance to the central part of the historical park of Sukhothai, there is a bike rental, 30 baht per day (30 rub). If you you are going to visit all parts of the park, it’s worth taking if only central, it is not necessary, it is not very big. Great By the way, so-so, walking and urban.

What temples are worth seeing

When you walk around the Sukhothai Park for two days, the eye becomes wet, and temples already seem alike. Therefore, we often just hung out for a few hours at one of them, so just sit and think, enjoy the moment. We did it everywhere except in the central part, as it is mostly for the people. Although, it is a good park with many cozy places. for relax.

Most of all, we remember 4 temples:

  • Wat Mahathat – the central part
  • Wat Si Chum – the northern part
  • Wat Saphan Hin – the western part
  • Wat Chetuphon – the southern part
