Thong Sala – the port and the largest village on Phangan

Tong Sala is a large urban-type settlement (someone just calls it a city), which serves as an administrative center and the main port on Phangan. Once a simple fishing the village is now a fairly large area islands with a high population density, with two full, concrete piers, and urban infrastructure.

Besides all this, Thong Sala has its own coastal piece. line, which can be very conditionally called the beach. Bathe on it you hardly have a desire, and for what reason.

Beach description

Despite the fact that Thong Sala is just a small town in the south of the resort island, the coast along it is generally not suitable in beach holiday plan. Both Tong Sala Pier provides work fairly heavy passenger traffic, from ferries to fishing longtails, so the sea and the beach itself around the piers is difficult call clean.

The right edge of Thong Sala Beach rests on the broad channel of the river, and the left smoothly goes to Ao Bang Charu beach, which also applies to the city beaches of Thong Sala. The entire surface of the coast near the piers reinforced concrete and in fact is a single embankment, under which lies sand with garbage.

Entry, depth and waves

For objective reasons, I did not measure the depth of the sea and cleanliness of the bottom with my own feet, and people swimming there I also don’t had seen. Feel free to take Thong Sala as a technical beach, where you can sit with a bag of food or make a fire for romance at sunset

Waves here happen regularly because the sea is near Tong Sala deep enough, although the fairways are still dug up to the piers, so that the ferries do not hit the bottom with a keel.

Sun beds and shade

There are no loungers on Tong Sala, it’s also unimportant with the shadow of things. There are several large trees that you can hide under from sunshine in the daytime. Well, a couple of bacon on the beach is great suitable for temporary respite or snack. Sala (emphasis on “a”) – this is the Thai arbor under the roof and with benches, you will be their often found throughout Thailand.

So to say, the local cultural and architectural feature is very relevant for tropical countries with their capricious weather when either the sun is frying, or sudden torrential rains occur.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure Thong Sala – the most complete in Phangan. WITH amendment to the island, of course. Offices are located in Tong Sala. government services, mass shops and supermarkets, markets, cafe-restaurants, rentals, banks and ATMs, hotels and guesthouses. BUT the most popular meeting point with friends is the food court Pantip Market where you can eat inexpensively.

In general, it is easier to say in two words – in Tong Sala is everything. On the promenade even built a public gym, where you can work out for free on the simulators with your weight – this is, By the way, the trend in the resort towns of Thailand. But so that you understand Phangan is not yet as good as Samui, which in turn also never Phuket and Bangkok.

I also did not see anyone seriously discussing Tong Sala as option for long-term residence in Phangan. Tong Sala is the local capital, noise, the epicenter of trade and the transport hub in one face, with ugly beach and a couple of attractions: landing ship “Phangan”, a monument to King Rama V and dilapidated already the layout of the island on the square with a circular movement. People come here to hang out, buy or dive into ferry, but definitely not for a beach holiday.

Oddly enough, there are sidewalks in Tong Sala. Oddly enough, there are sidewalks in Tong Sala.

Houses and hotels on the beach

With all this said, in Tong Sala a sufficient amount of housing economy class, and how else could it be in the town, through which Thousands of tourists pass in a day. Expensive hotels or resorts here no, neither near the sea, nor in the second, nor in the third line, understandably reasons.

And choosing a place to sleep among guesthouses and first hostels lines, I would first of all pay attention to these:

  • For you guesthouse
  • Bigboss Hostel
  • Tayas place Thong Sala - the port and the largest village on Phangan

Thus, if the task is to save, or, for example, live in the center of “civilization” (or spend the night before sailing to the mainland or Koh Samui), then consider Thong Sala. Alternatively, you can live on outskirts, for example, I lived somehow here in this hotel.

How to find the beach

You can find Thong Sala Beach with your eyes. But seriously, with 50% chance you get to Phangan through Tong Saly pier, so you will see it entirely, passing along the pier from the ferry to shore. The exception will be the far edge of the town, which called Ao Bang Charu, by the way it was he who got into my lens. About Piers to shoot in fact there was nothing, except piers.
