Canary Island Tenerife is a unique natural reserve. Due to the peculiarities of the climate and the soil is growing here there are a lot of unique plants and endemics. Some plants found their place in the forests in the north of the island, others delight tourists in the south of the island, and one incredible plant settled where it would seem like nobody should be.
Takhinaste – the flower of the volcano
The bruise of Wildpreta, or the tower of jewels, is the most popular plant on the island. Many tourists annually come to the island during its flowering period to see and take a picture of this miracle.
The flower can be found only on Tenerife and nowhere else in all the world. But on the island you will not see him at every turn. Will you find him only among the “moon” lifeless landscapes in the gorges of Mount Teide (it is a volcano). For life, the plant needs a lot of sun, it withstands drought and at the same time resists even in cold weather -15˚С.
In the first year of life, the plant produces a dense outlet leaves, and in the second year it releases an arrow up to 3 meters high. The whole arrow is covered with thousands of small red-pink and blue flowers. You can see this beauty once a year from the end of May to the beginning of June.
Takhinaste has an interesting aroma, though barely perceptible. Beekeepers the nectar of this plant is very much appreciated, and its enchanting aroma is very attracts bees. The flower is a beautiful honey plant and they say that the taste of this honey is not confused with any other. Honey has a very rare, original taste, slightly salty with balsamic notes.
