What kind of food to take on a hike – our layout and food hiking list

Almost every tourist who starts hiking faced with the question of what food to take a hike. Because what you take more, the heavier the backpack, and the smaller, the increases the chance to stay hungry. It is clear that this optimum each his own, but still I want to share our food layout, with which we went to our first trip to Altai. This layout gave we are our friend an experienced hiker, but we are under her a little altered, as we eat more and love sweets.

I want to make a reservation right away, the layout is partially vegetarian, but this does not prevent her from using any person. Or how option to remake it for themselves.

What food to take on a hike – the nuances

– Food on the hike is taken not quite the one we used to eat houses. The main criterion is weight. For example, instead of bread you can take bread, instead of the usual cheese – dried cheese or at least more solid, instead of vegetables and fruits – dried vegetables and dried fruits. Thats there is preference given to everything dry, since it is lighter. – to all I advise a mixture of dried vegetables Italian (onions, carrots, parsley, celery), which is sometimes sold in supermarkets. Based on it good to cook buckwheat or some soup. – We do not take semolina and pasta, because it is the most useless food. – Instead of Hercules it is convenient take oatmeal muesli, because they are already with nuts and dried fruits, as well as sugar. It only remains to add water, and for example, powdered milk. – As a rule, do not take canned food because of their severity. In addition, banks ideally need to be taken away with them, and Do not burn, which is also not very convenient. – With a trip makes sense take more and spices, packed in plastic bottles from under any vitamins or from film. I would also recommend take not a metal bowl, but a plastic container with a lid, it is more universal. You can always close something, well, keep Comfortable with hands, not hot. A more detailed list of things hiking read the link. – Porridge and all loose need to put in a few plastic bags (pieces 3), otherwise then you will collect everything on the backpack. And even better are plastic bottles 0.5. and 0.6, or solid non-refillable garment bags, or even rag (in the sense of a plastic bag in a rag bag). – If you go in a group and are going to cook together, then in advance discuss the food list so that the main part of your place coincides. – Although it is believed that a lot of nature is required In calories, I eat a little less than at home. Since for computer can grind a lot of things and not notice. – If hike 3-5 days short and not very difficult, we usually do not think especially what food to take on a hike and drag as much food as want to. – To save time cooking food, porridge can be in advance soak. For example, if you leave buckwheat soaked in water for night, then in the morning it can not cook at all, the maximum heat. With it also saves gas / wood.

Hiking food list

We have a basic balance of about 400 grams per person per day + optional snacks (extra sweet, zucchini caviar, fruit). We have enough of this, but we eat, respectively, not up to dump, and so, to remain slightly hungry. If you eat meat, you can add another 100 grams of stew per day (while you can remove something from the sweet, but you can leave it).

Here is an Excel file with our layout. To recount on the required number of days, you just need to change the cell with the days. The column “per day, kg” does not mean the actual consumption per day, since Today at the evening you eat buckwheat, and tomorrow rice. Similarly, with sweet and other positions.

Our standard meals are: – In the morning rolled oats with dried fruit + tea / cocoa. – Happy only snacks in the form biscuits, casinacs, chocolates, dried fruits, nuts with water or less tea – In the evening, buckwheat / rice with dry vegetables or lentils / soybeans (or with mushrooms, if found on the way) + cheese with bread + tea / cocoa (sometimes).

The calculation of the food in the campaign is as follows: – Buckwheat / rice 80 grams at a time – Hercules 50 grams at a time – No more half a chocolate / polkazinaka for snacks or for tea. – Alternation additives to porridge, not all at once. If dry vegetables, then without a loaf with cheese, or tea without sweet, and vice versa.
