Kara-Tau mountain and Terpi-Koba cave – unique calcite patterns

One of our radial sorties during the last trip the mountains of Crimea is of particular interest because of the cave Terpi-Koba. Therefore, I would recommend to anyone who is in the area via Kara-Tau, or do the same radial sally. We climbed Kara-Tau from a tourist parking East Suat. This is a great place to sleep, there is a spring and a stream, where with a great desire you can even wash yourself, there is a lot of space and Enough is not one group. Total time radial campaign took no more than 6 hours, and this provided that we are very long sat on top and stayed in the cave for about an hour.

Kara Tau

Having climbed the steep slope from East Suat, we are a few minutes we get to the Choban-Chokrak well. Next to him there are camps of cavers, as well as those who collect herbs and berries Further, when the forest begins again, the road forks heavily. But if you follow the compass, you can hardly miss it. And already Having passed all these forks, it becomes clear that most of the roads leads in the same direction.

Terpi Koba Cave

If you climb Kara-Tau from the East Suat, then the cave will be located to the right of the top, 150 meters closer to the forest. To it leads the right branch of the dirt road. Sign in the cave is in a horizontal plane and represents recess in the ground, next to which grows a pair of bushes.

Terpi-Koba Cave is horizontally vertical and consists of something like from 3 halls. The first one is the largest and is about 20 meters long. It is has a sloping and very slippery clay floor, on which we had to go down almost on his heels. The light from the entrance is barely makes its way inside. Everywhere strange and color calcite snapping. They are of the greatest interest. Imagination was it would be difficult to create such patterns that nature makes with ease.

The second hall is half the size of the first one and the entrance to it is located in the very end of the first hall to the right (a hole at the level of a meter from the floor). Here absolutely dark, but the formations are much larger. It is said that stalactites were here, but someone has already destroyed them. The third hall is without notions where located, learned about it only at the time of writing articles. Probably, you need to climb into it somehow, because we did not notice it.

Despite the fact that Terpi-Koba Cave is quite small, photographing and viewing the walls of the two rooms took us about an hour. Although, of course, a cursory inspection should be no more than 15 minutes

Next time I’ll tell you about the huge cave of Emine Bair Khosar, where did we go along with the guide and where there is not only stalactites and stalagmites, but the bones of a real mammoth.
