I went to Nizhny Novgorod after inspiring stories of my friend who recently visited there. Once I was going there, but then there were no tickets and I went to Veliky Novgorod. In that just decided to try to get BlaBlaCar (as I got there), and back ride the train. Budget and quickly turned out.
In this post I will try to convey my impressions of the city. Since I was there all day, this is only a superficial glance, yes and I look at the city rather than in terms of historical and cultural heritage, and trying on myself, could I live there or not. Actually, that’s why I pay attention to the fact that it would be possible not notice being a simple tourist. If you go to Nizhny, there it’s better to spend the night at the hotel (my selection of hotels), much more can be seen.
What did you like
I was brought to the city immediately to the upper part, where I skipped all day. The company I was composed of Alexander Kotlov, thank him for this! We walked along the pedestrian street (Bolshaya Pokrovskaya), inside and along the walls of the Kremlin, descended to the Lower Volga embankment, then climbed the Chkalov ladder, rolled into Bor on the cable car road, after which we got to the Fedorovsky embankment and in the evening they crossed the Kanavinsky bridge and got to the railway station. Behind the day turned out about 15 km, great! Such walks are much more interesting than running in the morning, with which I still can not relationships are getting better. I have a separate post that look In Nizhniy Novgorod.
The center of Nizhny Novgorod is quite pleasant. Although is it possible here speak the word “center” if it is only about one part of the city (top), moreover, it can be said, located on the outskirts? Not I know how the residents call it, but I just have this decentralization I liked it very much. You walk along the Big Pokrovka: shops, cafes, renovated houses, straight Moscow Arbat, but sat on the car and after 10-20 minutes you are already in a sleeping area, convenient.

And if you live right next to the Kremlin, you can get a view from the window on the arrow, where the Eye and the Volga merge, or just to the Volga. AND know what you’ll see across the river? Nothing! There is no other part of the city with dense residential buildings, and the forest! And it’s great! I already have a house looked out on the Fedorovsky embankment, just from the top floor all the beauty will be revealed. Imagine sitting by the window writing article, and there is a view— And the view is eternal, it is very unlikely that its spoil it.
On the left is the same house where you have to open a beautiful view.
Volga and forests
I wrote for a reason that this “center” is on the outskirts. Exactly a sensation is created, some airiness, perhaps, because of the Volga, being the frontier of the city, the gaze rests on nothing. Breathing easy, not at all in the center of a million city. After Moscow seems to have come to the suburbs, although it is not. By the way there is also a second moment that I also liked – there is where to walk.
Yes, yes, in Moscow there are parks and other places for walking too, but I have 10-20 minutes from the house there is no promenade with a beautiful view. However, in all the smaller cities, it is much easier to get somewhere. Although in Moscow I don’t remember a place with a non-urban landscape, all the embankments and viewing will be seen the city. And then immediately upper embankments, and lower, I do not want to walk, ride a bike. And the most important thing is not to get tired so quickly in the same places. walk And I also have such an idea, you can take a great and with him on the cable car to cross to the other side, where quite expanse for pokatushek.

What did not like
When I was driving with a driver through BlaBlaCar service (applications: Android, iOS) in Nizhny, then talked about who would like where live. He, who was born in Arzamas, but created a business in Moscow, I was going to return to my hometown sooner or later. Moscow with her eternal traffic jams him sick, the city is not for life, but for work, you don’t see your family. I fully agree and support, also always wanted to live in a smaller town, but civilization is not enough. Driver Sasha then asked me, but what is missing, then? There are shops, there are museums, exhibitions and buildings in Nizhny, where from Arzamas to go only half an hour, and for medicine you can and to Moscow roll up, by car 5 hours or 4 hours by train. I did not find and what to answer. Its true. Then already during a walk on the Lower I understood Novgorod what civilization means to me, besides everything listed above.

It is worth looking into the gateway and there is a similar landscape.

Strange restoration – balusters blindly blinded, and all the paint flowed
Transitions are terrible, in many there is no lighting
I agree, broken roads and sidewalks (why is there such trouble with them Lower?), Dead courtyards are in Moscow, they can be found, but massively nothing like this anymore. Even sleeping areas now neat, garbage is removed, curbs and fences painted, flower beds broken and lawn almost everywhere, modern playgrounds in each backyard, at night everything is lit up. Here is what our South Butovo looks like. There are few photos in the post, it was about something else, but we really modern and pretty area. Architecture is an amateur but better than the lower part of Novgorod near the Moscow highway, where very sad However, I had a photo just from the top parts, we drove through the bottom through the car (I did not taking pictures from the window), and then I walked along Yandex-Panorama.
Someone will say, bourgeois / Muscovite snickering. Really, You can get used to everything. But does it make sense to get used? Here is the answer everyone will have his own. I personally can not exchange Moscow with her minuses to another city with its minuses, but the search for little by little continue Conditionally, it is very important to me that they see the eyes while I am going to the shop. Desolation drives depressed and not at all adds optimism, and broken-down sidewalks without ramps (and entrances without ramps) are very difficult to live, especially if you forced to carry a baby / wheelchair every day down the street. When you are a tourist and you look at sights, for such things you can not pay attention, and live every day in this – quite another. I remember that Pushchino outside Moscow surprised me too, sort of very close to the capital, and without an all-terrain vehicle, to do there there is nothing. On the other hand, it is a matter of time (I hope). They say The bottom has already changed a lot. There are quite nice type areas. 7th sky Well, or you need to live in the upper part of the city next to The Kremlin and the house with a view, as I wrote above
P.S. It is very interesting what Sochi looks like. Taki hope we we will get there this year, it was painfully praised. Plus climate suitable, summer right up to December.
